The couple married in Spetses, Greece on 25 August 2010. The marriage was widely reported in the Greek media. The entire Danish Royal Family, with the exception of Crown Prince Frederik, travelled to attend the marriage along with others.

Princess Nikolaos' former employer Diane von Fürstenberg did not attend the ceremony or design the bride's dress (as had been widely expected). The gown was instead designed by Angel Sanchez.
