Early Life Edit
Princess Sophie was born on 7 March 1978 in Frankfurt, West Germany. Her parents are Franz-Alexander, Prince of Isenburg and his wife, née Countess Christine von Saurma-Jeltsch. He is head of a mediatized Catholic line of Princes of the Holy Roman Empire, who lost their independence in 1815. She has two sisters (Archduchess Katharina of Austria-Esteand Isabelle, Dowager Princess of Wied) and two brothers (Hereditary Prince Alexander and Prince Viktor).
Education and Career Edit
Growing up at Castle Birstein, the family seat in Hesse, Sophie studied at a primary school in Birstein and at St. Mary's school (de) in Fulda. She then attended the boarding school Kloster Wald and passed her A-Levels as well as a trade test as a dressmaker. The princess undertook internships in her country's Bundestag, and in London, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
Sophie studied Business Administration at the University of Freiburg and Humboldt University of Berlin and works at a firm that offers consulting services for nonprofit business.
Personal Life Edit
In March 2005, Princess Sophie met her future husband, Duke Christian August of Oldenburg, the maternal half-brother of Georg Friedrich I, German Emperor. They socialized in the same circles, went to the same school and were already friends when their romance developed in 2009.
Engagement and Wedding Edit
On 20 January 2011, The engagement between Princess Sophie and Duke Christian August of Oldenburg was announced at a cabinet meeting by the German Emperor. The wedding was held on 2 September 2012 at the Imperial Abbey in Berlin. Following the ceremony, a wedding banquet dinner was held by the groom's parents.
On 30 January 2013, The Royal Court announced that Prince Christian August and Princess Sophie were expecting their first child in June 2013. On 16 June 2013, the couple became parents for the first time to a boy, Prince Nikolaus Friedrich of Prussia.
On 13 May 2016, The Royal Court announced that Prince Christian August and Princess Sophie were expecting their second child in November 2016. On 17 November 2016, the couple became parents to a daughter, Princess Emma Marie of Prussia.
On 3 March 2018, The Royal Court has announced that Prince Joachim August and Princess Sophie are expecting their third child, due in August 2018.
